A source told the Arizona Republic that the Eagles offered the Cardinals a third-round pick and starting cornerback Sheldon Brown in exchange for receiver Anquan Boldin. The Cardinals quickly rejected the offer, according to the Phoenix-based newspaper.
Obviously not of this matters much now, except that the Eagles said they would trade Brown when he asked to be traded the week before the draft. If the report is true, the Eagles must be less opposed to trading Brown than they have indicated.
After last month's NFL draft, Cardinals general manager Rod Graves said the team received two firm offers for Boldin but did not disclose the offers. Bears GM Jerry Angelo told Chicago media that he offered a second-round pick.
In an interview on WIP radio on Tuesday morning, Eagles coach Andy Reid questioned whether the Cardinals really wanted to trade Boldin, saying, "He's a pretty good player and he's still there." The inference was that if Arizona really wanted to trade Boldin, some team would have made a good-enough offer.
Reid also said the price for Boldin might have turned off some suitors. The price being multiple high draft picks and a $10 million-a-year contract. *
