RECORDS: Seahawks 2-7, Cardinals 6-3
MATCHUP MICROSCOPE: Seahawks CBs Marcus Trufant, Josh Wilson and Kelly Jennings vs. Cardinals WRs Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston. The numbers say this will be a series of game-deciding mismatches. The Cardinals' six-handed monster has combined for 17 touchdowns, 152 receptions and 2,021 receiving yards. The Seahawks have surrendered 14 TD passes, 204 receptions and 2,391 receiving yards. The 31st-ranked pass defense in the league will have to find a way to disrupt the timing of the second-ranked passing game in the NFL. The Seahawks need to pressure QB Kurt Warner. Or jam his receivers off the line. Or both. If they can't, it will be another long afternoon.
ONE TO WATCH: Matt Hasselbeck. After five long weeks, the Seahawks' three-time Pro Bowl QB returns - and with him some hope that this lost season can be salvaged. But how effective will he be? How will his back respond the first time Cardinals defensive end Bertrand Berry, linebacker Karlos Dansby or strong safety Adrian Wilson drives him to the turf? In the five games Hasselbeck played before being sidelined because a bulging disc in his back was causing weakness in his right leg, his passer rating (57.7) and completion percentage (.492) were among the worst in the league - so low that even Hasselbeck was cracking jokes about them.
FUN TO WATCH: The right side of the Cardinals offensive line. Last year, defensive end Patrick Kerney abused right tackle Levi Brown for a three-sack performance in the Seahawks' 42-21 win in Week 14 at Qwest Field. This year, right guard Deuce Lutui leads all NFC West players with nine penalties. Brown won't have to deal with Kerney, who's out after having a clean-out procedure on his surgically repaired left shoulder last week; and replacement Darryl Tapp has 2 1/2 sacks in his past 18 games. The penalty-prone Lutui can only hope the 12th Man comes down with laryngitis before Sunday.
