Arizona Cardinals Notes, Quotes 2008-07-28
It's not going to be easy for Cardinals management and coaches to soothe receiver Anquan Boldin's feelings about the team. Boldin is angry over the lack of progress in negotiations for a contract extension, and he feels betrayed.

He didn't hide his emotions when meeting with reporters as camp opened this week. Boldin claimed that team officials, most notably general manager Rod Graves, promised him a new deal would be in place by the start of the 2008.

Not only is Boldin still playing under a contract extension signed three years ago, but the two sides remain an ocean apart in efforts to agree to a new contract. Asked if he felt the Cardinals had lied to him, Boldin said yes. And he didn't stop there.

He said he has told agent Drew Rosenhaus to break off negotiations with the team.

"At this point, I'm not even interested in a contract," said Boldin. "For me, it's been going on two years, and especially after last year, I was promised a deal would get done before the season. But the season's here and obviously that hasn't happened.

"I don't want a deal. People may think I'm being funny or saying that just to say it. But, for me, I'm just tired of it. Washed my hands of the whole situation. My agent has direct orders not to negotiate. So that's how I feel about it."

--First-round pick Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie isn't sure what he's going to do with his first big check. He'll let it sit in the bank until he decides. One priority, however, is fixing up the 1985 Monte Carlo he drove in college at Tennessee State. "That's my old school I been working on," he said. "That's a garage sitting, an eye catcher."

Rodgers-Cromartie is quiet and very polite. He fills his answers with "Yes, sirs" and "No, maams." But he's got a sense of humor. He teased front office assistant Justin Casey for not turning on the radio during the 2 1/2 hour drive from Phoenix to Flagstaff. "We didn't listen to the radio, just drove up here in complete silence," he said. "I guess Justin wanted to talk or something."

--CB Eric Green has cut off his dreadlocks, which he had been growing for more than seven years. Green said he is three pounds lighter, and his hat size changed from 8 to 7 1/4. "That first cut, I thought I was going to throw up," he said. "I tore my ACL in '02, and I had that same sick feeling in my stomach when I cut it." He cut it, he said, to mark the start of an important season. Green is playing under a one-year deal.

--QB Kurt Warner would understand if the Cardinals came to him and said they are starting Matt Leinart because he's the future, not because he's necessarily the best quarterback on the roster right now. That's the message Giants coach Tom Coughlin gave Warner in 2004 when he benched the veteran in favor of rookie Eli Manning. But Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has told Warner that the best QB is going to play. "I didn't like going to the bench (with the Giants), but I could respect a guy like that and go to war with a guy like that because he was honest with me."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I think my numbers speak for themselves, and they (the Cardinals) even came out publicly and said that I outplayed my contract. I mean, I don't have to make a case to anybody about why I'm deserving of a new contract. That's self-explanatory." -- WR Anquan Boldin.
